What makes sealing these hard-to-seal surfaces possible with joint sealant is the marshmallow-like consistency of the pure expanded Teflon (ePTFE) sealing cord.  It will conform to the shape of the flange and fill in any pits.  And because it is pure expanded Teflon (ePTFE), it is chemically resistant to all media with a PH of 0-14.

The joint sealants that Allied Packing and Rubber offer come with a self-adhesive backing on one side which facilitates easy installation and can make sealing even vertical flanges a one-man job.  These sealants also have the ability to seal where available bolt loads are low and can compensate for out-of-parallel and/or damaged sealing surfaces with excellent resistance to creep and cold flow.

When compressed, this soft, conformable joint sealant cord forms a thin yet very strong seal.
